inSilica provides an entire family of Embedded Multimedia Application Processors ranging from simple playback devices to full-featured high-performance Media Processors. The devices are capable of capturing, processing, compressing images and video from both CMOS and CCD sensors, as well as transmitting over networks or storing them in embedded non-volatile memory. In addition, the devices can decode compressed images, video, and audio, and output content to displays ranging from small LCDs for portable applications, to high-definition TVs. All major interfaces are available such as: Imagers up to 16Mpixel in either YC or Bayer RGB format, 24-bit LCD, composite video encoder with line driver, USB Host/Slave, and I2S/AC97. In addition, devices support all major Flash Cards including the ability to read from a Mass Storage Class USB device. The most advanced devices include software support for wireless connectivity to transmit and receive multimedia content from either home servers or the internet.
Dedicated logic blocks perform all the complex functionality for image processing, collection of exposure statistics, auto focus, JPEG, MPEG Video codecs, and image/video scaling. This ensures that power consumption is minimized and the ARM processor can be fully utilized to run other applications such as audio decode, audio/video processing, or other user functions. inSilica provides software libraries with a complete sample application, along with several evaluation boards thus making it possible to quickly develop a competitive and high-performance consumer product.
