Innovative product demonstrating at CES, enables mainstream phones to migrate to full

InSilica Corp. today announced general availability of its next generation image processor to customers in the mobile phone segment. The INS-3510, which the company is demonstrating at the Consumer Electronics Show, provides a dramatic advance in price/performance over its predecessor which has shipped over 4 million units in the last half of 2006. The INS-3510 brings full 3 & 5 Megapixel Digital Still Camera class capabilities to lower cost mobile phones. It includes features previously unavailable in this segment such as Advanced Adaptive Tone Mapping to ensure color correctness in variety of lighting sources, Full auto-functions including Auto Exposure, Auto White Balance, and user selectable multipoint Auto-Focus. Through its programmable architecture additional features such as special effects can be included to enable camera module and phone manufacturers to further customize and differentiate vs. the standard array of low quality and limited feature cameras prevalent in current value phones. "Imaging features that are currently limited to DSCs and the highest end camera-phones will become available in mainstream handsets over the next few years," stated Tony Henning, editor of The Mobile Imaging Report. "InSilica is driving this trend by enabling advanced imaging capabilities without compromising other important design goals for high volume phones: low cost, low power and compact form factor." In order to drastically minimize these typically negative side effects of adding advanced camera features to phones, InSilica designed the INS-3510 from the ground up to leverage deep submicron 90nm process and advanced physical design techniques to attain very small die size and low power consumption. To further help mobile phone manufacturers gain cost control, the company has optimized firmware and tuning for all primary image sensor providers, enabling handsets to use multiple sources in sensors much the same way they do with memory suppliers. "The INS-3510 image processor was designed from the ground up optimizing power, size and true print quality to meet the needs of high volume cell phone markets", stated Balaji Baktha, InSilicas President and CEO. "In addition to INS-3510, InSilica will introduce in 2007 a series of innovative products to cover the full range of mobile imaging markets". InSilica is providing customers evaluation kits with various market leading 3MP CMOS sensors available now, and available with 5MP sensors in the first quarter of 2007. The INS-3510 will be available in bare die, low profile BGA package and SIP with integrated flash configurations. The company provides fully tuned firmware optimized to the sensor characteristics and customer preference and expects handset and camera module customers to launch production systems based in the INS-3510 in Q1 2007.
